welcome to
bistro X

a modern bistro in the heart of fitzroy and all-day hangout for food lovers, wine drinkers, and anyone who appreciates the art of a good time.

our neighbourhood dining room is relaxed yet refined, where leading australian design meets with the friendly warmth of your favourite local.

from morning coffees, to long lunches, after-work knock-offs and special dinners, bistro X is the kind of place that feels easy — a little french, a lot fitzroy, and exactly where you want to be.

BistroX

classic
technique.
melbourne
attitude.

grounded in classic french technique and brought to life with a melbourne edge, bistro X celebrates the beauty of simplicity – honest food, made with quality ingredients, enjoyed in good company.

our market-fresh menu changes regularly, so there’s always something new on the table, and we work closely with local growers, bakers, roasters and winemakers to keep things hyper-seasonal.

on the wine list we're bringing you a curation of everything from local drops to world-class champagnes and some undiscovered gems in between.

whether you’re dropping in for steak frites and a glass at the bar, or settling in for a special occasion, bistro X serves up the kind of food you’ll want to come back for.

the chef

at the heart of Bistro X is executive chef ben john and a team of melbourne hospitality originals who love feeding their community.

ben’s approach is simple — champion hyper-seasonal produce and keep it welcoming. his dishes celebrate familiar flavours and Victorian ingredients, delivered with the ease and creativity fitzroy is known for.

our team brings together sharp technique, relaxed service and a considered eye for experience, from prix fixe long lunches complimented by a curated wine list from our resident sommelier to tuesday steak nights and a weekend coffee cart with pastries. we’re building the kind of neighbourhood spot we’d want to eat at ourselves.

straight from the feed

"Bistro X is a bistro and the thoughtful and tight menu reads accordingly—however, there’s decades of skill, technique and thought that’s gone into it."

the urban list

“the design-led haven has fast made a name for itself as one of Fitzroy's most aesthetic spots to drink, dine and indulge.”
